Reporting to the Manager/Sr. Manager of Audit Services, the Field Auditor will have a role in performing on-site and virtual (remote) revenue audits of franchised hotel locations, as well as, assist with additional ad-hoc assignments or special projects deemed necessary in review of the Wyndham Hotel Group division. The Field Auditor will utilize a risk-based approach to select franchised hotel locations for audits and complete audit testing to ensure franchisees are properly reporting revenues in accordance with their Franchise License Agreement, Brand Standards, and any special stipulations or addendums. The Field Auditor will be responsible for documenting audit results, preparing audit workpapers, and communicating audit finding to the audit manager.
Essential Job Functions
Independently plan and execute on-site and virtual (remote) franchise revenue audits:
Drafting and sending audit confirmation letters prior to performing the on-site and virtual audits to inform property owners that an audit will be conducted and note which financial records and requested supporting documentation will be required to complete the audit.
Leading the audit process by testing franchisees’ financial information and verifying operational procedures are in accordance with the franchise agreements and company brand standards.
Documenting audit testing and results to be reviewed by management.
Communicating and discussing preliminary audit findings with franchise owners, general managers, and the audit manager.
Providing guidance to franchise owners and general managers regarding proper procedures for accurate revenue reporting, which impacts franchise fee revenue recognized by the company.
Complete additional ad-hoc assignments:
Collaborate with the Collections team to review outstanding audit invoices in an effort to collect payment from franchisees.
Interact with hotel property contacts, Brand/Franchise Operations, and Legal/Compliance teams to resolve audit disputes/appeals.
Coordinate with the Financial Services team as needed regarding audit billings, credits, reversals, and collections.
Assist with administrative duties and tasks:
Complete required company trainings and participate in department specific training opportunities.
Mentoring, coaching, and training new team members.
The Field Auditor position has a defined set of metrics that measures the performance of each auditor.The metrics include the amount of audit assessments identified, the number of audits completed, and audit file completion time. The auditor’s ability to efficiently schedule high-risk properties for audits and effectively review their records uncovering unreported revenues has a direct impact on Wyndham Hotel Group’s financial results.
The candidate must have the ability and willingness to travel approximately 75-90% of the year for on-site franchise revenue audits.
The Field Auditor must be able to work independently, as well as, collaboratively with internal and external business personnel. The position requires the ability to multitask and to work with deadlines and under pressure. The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, as well as, possess excellent oral and written communication skills in order to effectively interact with various stakeholders within the business including, franchisees, financial services management, and business/brand operations management. The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in order to clearly communicate, properly prepare audit workpaper files, and successfully provide high-quality customer service, even in difficult situations. The candidate should have strong time management and organization skills. An understanding or ability to learn the business structure and processes is key in assisting in preparing various reports that address audit findings.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred. Bachelor’s degree in other business related concentrations would be considered, if the candidate has significant work experience within the hospitality industry. One to two years of auditing, accounting or finance experience is preferred. Prior audit experience within the hospitality or franchise industry is not required, but is a plus.Although not required, CPA or other business certification is a plus. The candidate should have an interest in learning business processes, auditing principles, internal controls, and system controls in a hospitality environment. Excellent time management, organization, and customer service skills are required.
The Field Auditor position will require the ability to work in a dynamic business and financial environment with flexibility to work in a multi-cultural atmosphere. The position is a very autonomous role that requires frequent independent decisions with a direct impact on the audit schedule, outcome of the audit, customer service to the franchisee, and revenues to the company.
